What is Reggio Emilia?
Loris Malaguzzi established the Reggio Emilia Approach to Early Childhood Education in Italy after World War II. Malaguzzi developed a curriculum that encourages children's creative growth while still following their interests. Since the lessons come from what the children find engaging, this is often known as Emergent Curriculum. Reggio Emilia is a progressive teaching approach that provides a wide range of learning opportunities for children, encouraging self-expression, communication, critical thought, and problem-solving. It's a hands-on, self-directed approach that lets kids learn at their own pace, led by their surroundings and teachers.
What is Montessori?
Montessori is a hands-on learning approach to education that begins in childhood and can be continued all the way to high school. This teaching method was created in 1907 by Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori Method of Education promotes the physical, social, mental, and cognitive growth of the entire child. The Montessori Method's inherent versatility enables it to adapt to the needs of each individual child, regardless of their learning style, social maturity, or level of skill. The Montessori philosophy recognizes each child as an individual. Each child needs a nurturing, supportive and challenging environment, which naturally develops their need to become educated, self-confident and independent.
What is Play Based?
In a play-based or child-centered preschool program, children are able to choose activities based on the current interests. Children are exposed to learning experiences such as creative arts, reading, numeracy, social studies, science, and others by play. Educators inspire children to play, which helps them develop social and emotional skills. Children may appear to be “just playing,” but they are actually learning essential educational, social, emotional, and life skills through play.
What is Nature Based?
Nature Base is where learning occurs in the context of nature. With education increasingly focusing on technology-based learning, it's important to remember why learning outside of a screen is beneficial for your child. Learning outside encourages children's imagination and problem-solving skills, as well as their cognitive abilities and academic achievement.
What is Mindfulness in Early Childhood Education?
Mindfulness exercises help the child to consider their feelings and thoughts in the present moment without critical or negative judgement, enabling them to be acknowledged, felt, and worked through.
